Gouthwaite Backpack - 18-23L - Acorn Edition
We will plant an oak tree for every Acorn Edition bag sold. It will be a one-year-old tree that we will plant when the weather cools down. Once planted we will send you its location so you can visit your tree.
Work and play, we use this bag every day. With space for a 16” laptop, your everyday essentials and more. This weatherproof backpack will be at home in every environment.
Handcrafted in the UK by our master bag maker Amy.
Our hardwearing, weatherproof, GOTS certified organic dry-waxed cotton uses 88% less water and 62% less energy than conventional cotton. It also uses zero toxic chemicals in its production.
Our bags are made to last a lifetime, but we get that not everyone wants to keep something that long.
To avoid your bag ending up in the back of the closet, or worse, the bin, we will take your bag back in exchange for BearMade credit (10% of the bags original value).
We will then recycle the parts from that bag and make it into something new.
We exist to connect people with nature. With every bag purchased, we commit to connecting one person with the outdoors. We are starting this mission with our local town, through out Wildish Club. Find out more here.

BearMade is an exploration into a different way of doing business.
Local. Impactful. Transparent.
Notes from the designer.
We feel personally responsible for the things we put out into the world and believe business should be a force for good.

→ Running The Wildish Club
→ Good coffee
→ General running costs
5 trees planted + 15kg CO2e offset
I was specifically looking for a company with low impact ethos. I really like the message and principles from Bearmade and so ordered the Gouthwaite 18L backpack. The bag is really spacious and comfortable. I use it for my commute and it also looks smart. I fit a laptop + notepad, lunchbox, electric cables, shoes, water bottle and coffee cup easily in the bag. The roll top gives some flexibility on size. My only wish was for one more large internal compartment. There's a laptop pocket and 2 small pockets (wallet / phone size). I would prefer another medium sized pocket for those items I don't want to drop to the bottom of my bag, like my company pass, my umbrella etc. Otherwise it's a great bag and I would still recommend
Excellent quality materials and very good communications. I’m really pleased with my purchase.
Really enjoying my new bag, it’s A Great size for commuting or travelling and can be extended or reduced in size depending on your needs. Only slight improvement could be some more pocket storage inside/outside
I have had multiple work bags over the years.
After watching Suits, I opted for messenger bags. These tended to be highly rated good quality bags that carried my laptop, stationary and the occasional snack. Both my recent messenger bags have lasted a couple of years before a zip broke or a strap started fraying, eventually resulting in me walking around with a sorry looking companion.
With travelling for work becoming more 'normal' again, I wanted to find a more robust companion, but with an added function - to be able to carry some overnight clothing to remove the need to take a suitcase. I reviewed multiple review sites, researched multiple bags and eventually, after much deliberation, decided to purchase a Bearmade.
What attracted me to the Bearmade? I liked the website, I liked the 'local' ethos, I liked that a company were specialising in just one thing and they were doing this whilst supporting the local economy. I like the idea of the 'Buckle that could carry an elephant' and the YouTube video made in a very relaxed, authentic and non-selly sort of way.
After making the plunge, the bag arrived a couple of days later - wrapped in sustainable packaging, accompanied by a handwritten, personalised card. My digital experience was accompanied by a personal touch!
The bag was just as described and stores my laptop and stationary really well, with plenty of space for clothing without feeling to bulky whilst empty. The real test comes next week after my first trip away with work.
I think there is also some versatility with this bag as I could take this for walks and weekends away - for some proper adventures, as I feel this bag could take some welly - some rugged use!
I am hoping this bag will last me for some time now, ideally without the need to buying a replacement.
Great product, great experience, great service - well pleased.
When I saw 5 people wearing the same rab jacket as me one day I knew then when I needed a new bag I wanted to get something special. A bag for life, something hand made and high quality and not mass produced. Oscar and Amy have exceeded my expectations with this amazing quality bag. I was luckily enough to get a Gouthwaite Backpack in green with customised colour logo. One of a kind! Best things come to those who wait, I waited just over a month for my bag to arrive. Totally worth the wait.
I will be surprised to see another Bearmade bag, never mind in green 😄. Thanks again Oscar. Next time your on Skye drop in for a coffee at the smokehouse.
